গোটা বিশ্ব এখন গভীর অন্ধকারে নিমজ্জিত। মানুষ তার সৃষ্টিকর্তাকে চেনে না। দুনিয়ায় সে কেন এসেছে তাও জানে না। জীবনের পরিণাম সম্পর্কে সে সম্পূর্ণ উদাসীন।
অন্যান্য জীবজন্তুর মতো সেও যেন এক জীবমাত্র। তার বুদ্ধি-বিবেক আছে, কিন্তু তার যথার্থ ব্যবহার সে করে না। তার ব্যবহার জৈবিক চাহিদা পূরণেই সীমাবদ্ধ। সে তা পূরণও করে অন্যান্য জীবজন্তুর মতোই।
অথচ শুভবুদ্ধির অনুশীলন ও মানবিক গুণাবলির বিকাশ সাধনের মাধ্যমে অকল্পনীয় উচ্চতায় পৌঁছার সম্ভাবনা আছে তার। যেখানে পৌঁছলে মর্ত্যের এ মানুষকে স্বাগত জানানোর জন্য উদগ্রীব হয়ে ওঠে খোদ জান্নাতুল ফিরদাউস।
